An object is placed exactly midway between a concave mirror of radius of curvature 40cm and a convex mirror of radius of curvature 30cm. The mirrors face each other and are 50cm apart. Determine the nature and position of the image formed by successive reflections first at the concave mirror and then at the convex mirror.

 

i found a web page which has the answer but i dont fully understand it. i cant figue out how there can be a virtual object or is it the image acting as a vitual object.its very confusing. if anyone can simply this solution as best as it can be done, im really thankful to you.

You have it correct in your musings......this is the IMAGE produced by the FIRST (concave) mirror......this IMAGE is then used as a VIRTUAL OBJECT (as it is not a REAL object)  for the SECOND (convex) mirror calculations.....

    If you had an ACTUAL object of the same size and orientation placed at the first image location, it would produce the same results in the calculations for the second mirror.....but you are using the IMAGE as an object instead...a VIRTUAL OBJECT.
