Which package design will cost the company less to create and by approximately how much?

Volume of either package is  2.5 ft^3

Prism   base x h = volume   :    1x 2   x h = 2.5 ft^3

                             h = 2.5/2 = 1.25 ft

     Surface area of prism (without a top)   2 x (1 x 1.25)  + 2 x (2x 1.25)  + 1 x 2  = 9.5 sq ft

Cylinder volume = base area x h :  2.5 x h = 2.5     h = 1

     surface area (without a top) = base area + side              base area/pi = r^2      so r = .892288    so diameter = 2r = 1.78458

                             2.5   + (1.78458 x 1) = 4.28   sq ft 

It will take almost twice as much material to make the rectangular prism box as the cylinder container
