One number is bigger than another by 6.When 4 is added 3 times the smaller.The result is the same as twice the larger.Find the number

N = n + 6                             ...(1)   Where N is the bigger number and n the smaller.

3*n + 4 = 2*N                     ...(2)

Substitute N from eqn (1) into eqn (2)

3*n + 4 = 2*(n + 6)

3*n + 4 = 2*n + 12

3*n -2*n = 12 - 4

n = 8

Substitute this back into eqn(1)

N = 8 + 6

N = 14
