a right triangle has legs of length 5 inches and 12 inches. what is the area?

The area of a triangle is ( base * height ) / 2

 

So then A= (5*12)/2 = 30

Not all the 3 lengths of sides are given.

Therefore 12 may be the hypotenuse.

I will assume that 12 is the length of the hypotenuse.

Another side = sqrt(12^2 - 5^2) = 119

Area = 5 x sqrt(119)/2 = 5/2 sqrt(119)
