The lengths of the sides of a traingle are c=5, b=6 and a=10 cm respectively. Find the square of the length of the median of the greatest side.

Hello Guest!

m2a=14(2(b2+c2)a2)m2a=14(2(36+25)100)cm2

The lengths of the sides of a triangle are 5, 6 and 10 cm respectively.

Find the square of the length of the median of the greatest side.

cos-rule:

(1)62=52+1022510cos(A)36=125100cos(A)100cos(A)=12536100cos(A)=89cos(A)=89100

(2)x2=52+52255cos(A)x2=5050cos(A)x2=505089100x2=50892x2=5044.5x2=5.5

The square of the length of the median of the greatest side is 5.5 cm

a = 5           b = 6        c = 10

(mc)2 = {[ sqrt( 2a2 + 2b2 - c2 )] / 2} = 5.5 cm2  smiley
