How is x° 400°? There is no 400° is there?

For trigonomic functions , everything starts over when you get to 360 degrees, so 400 would be the same as 40 degrees.

 

My oven will heat up higher than 400 degrees.

Mmm I can see your confusion.

Guest is right.  For most purposes 400 degrees equivalent to 400-360=40 degrees.

That is because degrees is an angular measure and if you turn around 360 degrees then you are back where you started.

BUT  400 degrees is a perfectly acceptable measurement too.   :)

 

I hope that helps a little.  You may need to think about it as you answer questions.  It may become clearer with time :)

For any angle m over 360 degrees......

The corresponding angle = m - 360n

where 360n is the biggest possible multiple of 360 that can be subtracted from m.
