I just worked out how to make an empty box of various horizonal size easily in LaTex.
This is not a recommended method, but other methods that I have tried here have not worked.
This coding is really simple. Just put letters inside

Very interesting question. No high level maths required.
This question was posted a couple of days ago.

I think it is really interesting. It looks much more difficult than it really needs to be.

Some guidelines for question askers.
Please note:
1) Ask only one question per post.
2) When asking a question talk about what you have tried for yourself. Then people will take you more seriously and will be more able and willing to help.
3) If you get an answer

-4/5 + (- 1/3)
= -4/5 + - 1/3
If 2 signs (+ or -) are so close together that you can put a circle around them without anything else inside the circle
then
if the signs are the same, replace with a plus
if the signs are different, replace with a minus.
= -4/5
-
1/3
then, either find a common denominator and solve that way or just do it on your calculator.
If doing by hand,
consider -8-6 = -(8+6) = -14

Maybe you mean
what is the cube root of -125 in which case the answer is -5 because -5*-5*-5 = -125
there is a cube root button on your calculator or you can use.
Also a cube root is a power of 1/3
so
(-125)^(1/3) should also give you the correct answer.

It is 3
5(root5)i
BUT at high school level it is fair to say that the square root of a negative number does not exist so there is no answer.

Parallel to y=3x-4 and through the point (0,5)
The gradient of y=3x-4 is 3
any line parallel must also have a gradient of 3
Now there is more than one way to continue;
you could just say y=3x + b
sub in (0,5) to find b
then just write the equation answer down.
Is this enough help?

Speed of sound at sea level is approx 340.29 m/s
340.29m/s * 5.6sec = 1905.624m (the secs cancel out)
1.906km
there is about 5/8 mile in one km (a mile is further than a km)
1.906 * (5/8) = 744 miles

your answer isn't correct
I think the question is
y = (x-1) (rootx - 2)
y= x(rootx - 2) - 1(rootx - 2)
=xrootx - 2x - rootx +2
now, rootx = x to the power of 1/2
xrootx = x
1
x
1/2
= x
(1+1/2)
= x
(3/2)
so
y= x
(3/2)
-2x -x
(1/2)
+ 2
